Believe it or not, it's time to get back in the gym to get ready for the 2015 AAU season.
QCAA Basketball will kick off the 2014-15 youth basketball season with its annual Skills & Drills sessions at United Faith Christian School, beginning Sunday Aug. 31.
Skills sessions are open to anyone, regardless if you have played in QCAA or not.
QCAA is coming off another great campaign in the 2013-14 youth basketball season. The organization fielded 14 teams in grades 3-9 last year.
QCAA had two fourth grade teams place at AAU Div. II Nationals. The QCAA Force, which won a state championship among its nine tournament wins, finished sixth in the country, and the QCAA Force Red finished 12th.
At 8th grade AAU Div. II nationals in Orlando, Fla., the QCAA Force Red finished 10th.
And at the 8th grade AAU Div. I nationals, a new team called MB1 finished fourth in the country, a record finish for a QCAA or QCAA-related team. MB1 was coached by QCAA president Edward Addie and was made up nearly exclusively of players who had played in QCAA previously.
At the USBA national tournament in Myrtle Beach, the QCAA 3rd Grade Blue team finished in the Final Four.
"It was a great season by our players and our coaches," coach Addie said, "and I'm awful proud of our group. This year, we're just as excited about our chances to have an even better season. We've amassed as strong a coaching staff as we've ever had and hope to field more teams, including multiple teams in many age groups."
QCAA Skill Development Sessions are open to all players and players of all skill levels. These sessions are designed to keep the players in the gym during the off season and prepare them for school ball and the QCAA Run & Shoot Winter League, which begins in late October.
