USBA 6th Grade Blue wins USBA National Championship

The 5th Grade QCAA Force "Blue" team became the second team within the organization to win a United States Basketball Association national championship July 23.

The QCAA Blue defeated the Virginia All Stars 50-48 to win the championship in Myrtle Beach. In 2009, the QCAA "Red" team won the USBA title. The Red team was in the semifinals in 2010 before finishing a Carolinas' best top 16 at the AAU Division I nationals in July 2011.

The Blue won its national title in dramatic fashion.

Left-hander Gary Drummings drove to the basket and made a layup while getting fouled. HIs free throw tied the game with 50 seconds left.

Later, JB Truesdale hit two free throws to put the Force ahead by two points. It was QCAA's first lead of the game. With four seconds left, the All Stars had two free throws to tie the game, but missed both.

The Force Blue earned a first-round bye as the tournament’s second seed after going 3-1 in pool play.
