The Queen City Basketball Association is proud to announce a partnership with worldwide apparel and shoe manufacturer Under Armour as the official brand of the organization.

The agreement takes place immediately and will help outfit QCAA players and coaches in Under Armour shoes and apparel in the 2014 AAU season.

"We're so pleased to announce this partnership with Under Armour, which we feel is one of the fastest-growing sports apparel manufacturing companies in the world," QCAA president Edward Addie said. "Under Armour has always been a player in the football world, but as it tries to expand into basketball, we feel a large youth basketball organization like ours can help tell its story."

Under Armour was founded by Kevin Plank 17 years ago. Plank was a former walk-on for the Maryland football team.

Plank, now 40, started the company along with Chief Operating Officer Kip Fulks working in the basement of Plank's grandmother's house, the two frends stitching together and shipping the sweat-wicking and tight-fitting performance shirts that Under Armour is still known for.

The idea came in 1995 because Plank, then special teams captain at Maryland, hated having to change his cotton shirt so much during practice or games, when it became heavy and wet. The shirts he and Fulks were making were designed to wick away sweat, remaining lighter and drier.

They were onto something.

In 1996, Under Armour made $17,000. By 2012, it earned nearly $2 billion, a 25 percent jump in growth from 2011.

Earlier this year, Under Armour opened an 8,000 square foot showroom called the Brand House in its Baltimore, MD, headquarters. It features 74 life-sized fully outfitted mannequins to help athletes dress themselves for their sport.

At QCAA, Addie thinks Under Armour and his organization are a perfect match.

"We're both striving to be the best we can be, us in the basketball world and them on the apparel and shoe side," Addie said. "Together, I think we can help each other. I think we can help each other a lot."

The new QCAA team store, featuring Under Armour products, is now open at http://www.qcaabasketball.com/page/show/723386-qcaa-store Orders must be completed by July 31 for the initial wave.
