The QCAA Invitational
was a big hit. The
tournament had
teams from (4) states
including NC, SC, GA &
Virginia.
Organizations that
were represented
include NC Gaters,
United Stars, Carolina
Ravens, Carolina
Flight & many more.
This tournament
continues to grow
each year & is quickly
becoming the hottest
event that is used
early in the year to
get a jump on the best
competition.
The age group that sounded off the loudest had to be the 11U Division which
boasted 16 teams! The cream of the crop in the division proved to be the CB
Spiders who won the championship game over the Cabarrus Stars.   What's
so unique about that match-up is both teams are from the same neck of the
woods, Cabarrus County. Some of the marquee players in that division
include Alex Reid, Grant Williams, Qon Murphy, Hansah Nazradeen & Garrett
Groulx. But the top dawg in the fight proved to be Tyshon Alexander of the
CB Spiders. Whether he was stroking the tri-fecta from long range or getting
into the lane with his pull-up jumper, Alexander proved to be too tough for
the competition.
In the 12U Division there was an all-out war in the championship game
between Keenan Black of the CC 1st Spiders & Seventh Woods of The
Carolina Ravens. Woods proved to be one of the most athletic players in the
country & Black was as skilled as any 12U player that I've seen in recent
years. Matt Morgan of the QCAA Force demonstrated some excellent passing
skills along with a good head for the game at the point guard position. Jarvis
Johnson teamed up with Woods & he proved that he belongs on the same
stage with some of the elite players in the 12U Division. The Co-MVPs of the
tournament were  Xavier Robinson & Haywood Forte. Other players seemed
to get more press than these (2) but they were definitely the reason the
Spiders were crowned champions.
The NC Gaters pulled away from the QCAA
Force in the 9U Championship. Gaters Coach
Langley has twin boys, Kobe & Keyshaun
that are extensions of him on the court.
Coach Bynum of QCAA calls Evan Johnson of
the Gaters the "orchestrator of the band"
and was the appropriate choice for MVP.
Kevin Tate of QCAA was outstanding
throughout the entire tournament with a
dominant inside game & he was a force on
the boards. Michia Jeremiah of the ATL
Select was great from the foul line & he
showed a knack for continuously getting to
the basket.
The QCAA Invitational Sports Report
Daisean McCain & Dalton Helms are new on the scene
in the 14U Division & their play at The QCAA
Invitational proved that they are going to be around to
stay. Both players from The Fort Mill trailblazers were
selected to the All-Tournament Team. Gabon Williams
is another name that you should remember for a long
time. Williams was tenacious on the boards and he's
very active around the basketball. His MVP selection is
one that no one can argue with. Malik Clements of the
VA Warriors was another impressive all-tournament
player as well.
The Carolina Ravens pulled off the impossible by
defeating both of the vaunted QCAA Force 10U teams
in route to the championship. 10U Blue is the reigning
D-1 State Runner-Up & 10U Red is defending D-2 State
Champs! The Ravens were a class act in choosing not
to select an All-Tournament Player or MVP, instead
deciding to give the award to the team. Darian Bell of
QCAA was tenacious on defense & Chase Praeger was
a tremendous floor general at the point. Austin James
of QCAA & Demar Horton of the NC Runnin Rebels were
outstanding selections to the All-Tournament Team.

    The Pick & Roll
    By Coach Edward Addie

  • QCAA Force 14U has (2) players that can actually play 12U, VJ King & Brandon Wilson. King is actually one
of the leading scorers on the team.
  • (3) Teams from the QCAA Invitational have college coaches on their bench, The 12U QCAA Force, 12U CC
    1st Spiders & 12U Carolina Surge.
  • Four different states were represented in the Invitational.
  • In 10U Pool Play, Khalid Davis of QCAA hit a free throw to take the game to OT vs The Ravens & then
QCAA Teammate Austin James hit a free throw in OT to win it.
  • The 11U Charlotte Express were a surprise hit. They gave the CB Spiders all they could handle in Pool
Play. Coach Glen Mosack is one of the better coaches around.
  • The Virginia Warriors 13U played in the 14U Division & left with a winning record. Good job!
  • BTYM has a kid that was automatic from long range. He should have made the All-Tournament Team but
the coach chose not to select a player from his team. Don't know the kids' name but he's really good.
  • #1 Fan award is a tie between Team P.A.S.S. & Carolina Ravens! Carolina Flight fans were M.I.A. for the
    weekend.
  • AAU States are going to be a lot of fun to watch this year. The 9U, 10U & 11U Divisions are wide open. I
have to give the CC 1st Spiders the early advantage in the 12U Division.
  • Did anyone see the 6'9 kid for the QCAA Force 12U. He's raw but he shot 12-14 from the Free Throw Line!
He has a very nice free throw with a soft touch. His name is Raekwon Long. Imagine that! He will be a
    Force for a long time!
